Our Natural Reaction vs. God's Way

When someone rejects us or attacks us, our natural reaction is to restrict our heart and squeeze them out. The Apostle Paul did the very opposite with the church at Corinth.

He declared: "O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you. Our heart is enlarged."

Two Powerful Symbols:

• The open mouth - A symbol of full, open, honest communication
• The enlarged heart - Keeping people in your heart, even when they make it difficult to do so

Why Communication Is Critical:

The solution to problems in marriage, parenting, or any other relationship is almost always communication. Ironically, when communication is most difficult is precisely when it is most important.

The Danger of Closing the Door:

If you do not deliberately spend time communicating with the people who are important in your life, the door of communication—and the door of relationship—will slowly, gradually, and completely close.

Excuses Don't Hold Up:

Most reasons people give for stopping communication are not legitimate—even when they cite Bible verses to support their withdrawal.

Your Communication Is Their Path Back:

When someone has walked away from God, the path they need to come back will probably be the path of your communication with them.
